We get it – if you’ve never had a professional photo session before or you simply don’t love having your photo taken, the idea of a senior photoshoot can leave you feeling nervous.
Senior photo sessions are meant to be fun – you’re capturing a very special year and showcasing all that you are in this moment in your life.
The good news is that there are steps you can take to make your session less awkward.
- Choose a professional. When you know that the person taking your photos isn’t a true professional, it’s going to make your session a little weirder. Mostly because they won’t be able to guide you on what to do in the same way that a professional photographer would. The result? Really odd-looking photos.
- Find someone you connect with. Just because you like a photographer’s style doesn’t mean they’re a good fit for you. Before you go ahead and book a photographer, give them a call or pop past their studios to make sure that you vibe with them. How easy is it to chat to them? Are they happy to answer your questions and give you suggestions? These are things that will make you feel more comfortable during your senior photo session.
- Practice a little. If you’re feeling nervous prior to your session, practice posing in front of the mirror. Know what angles you love and what makes you feel uncomfortable – you can even share this feedback with your senior photographer before you get going on the day.
- Hype yourself up. These sessions really are meant to be fun, and your photographer wants to make sure you have the best possible experience. If listening to music makes you feel more relaxed, pump yourself up with your favorite playlist before your session or play some music during your session.
Most of all, go into your senior session with an open heart and mind. Get excited about the experience instead of worrying about what MIGHT happen.
