Why a Cloudy Senior Photoshoot Isn’t a Bad Thing
You’ve finally booked your senior photo session, but now the weather isn’t looking too great. Before you go and change the date of your shoot, read this.
Non-sunny days are not a train wreck – they can actually make for some amazing photos.
Here’s why you should still go ahead with your senior portraits even if the day is set to be cloudy:
- There won’t be as many people. If you’re choosing to shoot your photos in a public location, there won’t be as many people to worry about if the weather isn’t sunny and warm. This is especially great if you are shy.
- The sky is more interesting. When the sun is barely peeking through the clouds, it makes for an interesting and beautiful sky – a perfect backdrop for your photos.
- Benefit from softer lighting. While golden hour is one of the best times to shoot your senior portraits, not everyone’s schedule allows for this timing. The great thing about cloudy skies is that it instantly softens the light, which makes for unforgettable photos.
- Make it a moody shoot. Another reason why you shouldn’t cancel or reschedule your senior photos when the weather is cloudy is that it gives your images a moody feel. And when you’re working with the right photographer, this can lead to some truly eye-catching photos.
- Glamorous outfits. Lastly, when you have a moody atmosphere for your senior portraits, you get to choose an entirely different look. Think boots, heavy skirts and coats, beautiful scarves, and dramatic makeup.
If you’re really worried about your pictures looking too gloomy, it’s perfectly fine to reschedule your shoot. Just keep the time of year in mind as your photographer’s schedule might already be jam-packed.
Sometimes, it’s better to go with the flow and trust in your photographer’s abilities – there is very little chance you will regret it.
