Essential Senior Portrait Tips for Athletes
For many seniors, sports and athletics is an integral part of their school careers.
If this is the case for you, it only makes sense for sports to be the theme of your senior photo session too.
To help you better prepare, here are a few tips to keep in mind as you plan your shoot.
- Decide what you want to wear. There are two options when it comes to what to wear for a sport-themed shoot. You can either wear your full team kit or you can pair a team shirt and jacket with a tailored pair of jeans.
- Pick some gear as props. A senior shoot isn’t complete without a few props, especially if you want to make it sports-orientated. Bats, balls, and any other equipment make for great props, so pick what you want to bring along. You don’t need to include props in all of your photos, but it can add variety to others.
- Be prepared to move. Movement is a big part of this type of senior photoshoot. You don’t necessarily need to run around, but your photographer might ask you to throw a ball or move in some way to get a few action shots. If you’re not keen on this and would prefer to pose, speak to your photographer ahead of time.
- Think twice about a location. Once you start planning your shoot, you might automatically pick your school as the location, but don’t settle on that right away. There could be a few other locations that could be a better fit – ask your photographer if they have any suggestions.
- Bring someone along. If you are feeling a bit nervous about being in front of a camera, you can always bring a friend or family member along with you. The opposite is also true – you don’t need to bring anyone along with you if it’s going to make you feel uncomfortable, which will show in your photos.
And there you have it; these are the most important things to know going into your sports senior photo session. If you still have questions though, your photographer will be happy to help.
